Jack Ohman
While still in college, Jack Ohman became the youngest cartoonist ever to be nationally syndicated. He now serves as editorial cartoonist for The Oregonian and is one of the most widely syndicated political cartoonists in the U.S.
Ohman's editorial cartoons display a stylish perception that make them, as People magazine suggests, "probably the most uncompromising, the most wicked and the most pointedly funny" on today's op-ed pages. His work appears regularly in the Washington Post, Philadelphia Inquirer, New York Times, Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, Seattle Times and scores of other major newspapers, as well as in Newsweek, National Review and other magazines. He also contributed drawings to "ABC News Nightline" from 1984 to 1986.
Ohman won the Overseas Press Club award in 1996. He has also won the national Mark of Excellence Award from the Society of Professional Journalists and the Exceptional Merit Media Award from the National Women's Political Caucus.
Ohman began his cartooning career while attending the University of Minnesota, drawing for the Minnesota Daily. After signing a syndication agreement with Tribune Media Services, he moved on to the Columbus Dispatch. From there, he joined the Detroit Free Press, and finally the Oregonian, where he has been since 1983.
In addition to his political cartoons, Ohman also created the syndicated comic strip Mixed Media. He is an accomplished author of eight books: "Back To The '80s," "Drawing Conclusions," "Fear of Fly Fishing," "Fishing Bass-Ackwards," "Why Johnny Can't Putt," "Do I Have To Draw You A Picture?," "Get The Net!," and "Media Mania."
