Jae-Ha Kim
Jae-Ha Kim, a New York Times bestselling author, writes "Go Away With..." -- a celebrity travel column that allows readers to vicariously travel along with stars such as Courtney Thorne-Smith, Joss Stone and Apolo Anton Ohno. Her bimonthly column offers insight into how celebrities like to vacation, as well as where they like to vacation. Who knew that Jordana Spiro ("My Boys") likes to backpack across Vietnam with just one bag, or that Harry J. Lennix ("The Matrix Reloaded") counts Eureka Springs, Ark., as a favorite vacation spot? Then there's guitar god Joe Perry (Aerosmith), whose children plead with him not to wear Speedos on family trips.
Kim started writing about celebrities while studying political science at the University of Chicago. After earning her M.S. in journalism from Northwestern University, Kim wrote for Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly and Playboy, as well as newspapers such as the Chicago Tribune, the New York Post, the San Francisco Chronicle and USA Today. After a stint as the rock music critic for the Chicago Sun-Times, Kim traveled to New Zealand to interview the cast of "The Lord of the Rings." It was sitting amongst orcs and hobbits that she was inspired to create "Go Away With..."
A voting member of the Chicago Film Critics Association, Kim wrote the first book about the hit sitcom "Friends" and is a co-editor of several travel books. She has appeared as a pop culture expert on NBC's "Today," "Entertainment Tonight," A&E's "Biography" and E! Entertainment. Kim got her first passport when she was four years old and hasn't stopped traveling. She counts Edinburgh (Scotland), Papeete (Tahiti) and Melbourne (Australia) as some of her favorite cities. Kim lives in the Chicago area with her husband and their freakishly large 20-pound cat.
