Jeffrey L. Seglin
Jeffrey L. Seglin, author of “The Right Thing: Conscience, Profit and Personal Responsibility in Today’s Business,” is a lecturer in public policy and director of the communications program at Harvard’s Kennedy School. He is also the administrator of www.jeffreyseglin.com, a blog focused on ethical issues.
Seglin previously served as an associate professor at Emerson College in Boston, where he taught ethics and writing. He has been an ethics fellow at the Poynter Institute for Media Studies since 2001, and was a resident fellow at the Center for the Study of Values in Public Life at Harvard from 1998-99.
"The Right Thing: Conscience, Profit and Personal Responsibility in Today's Business" was named as one of Library Journal's Best Business Books of 2003. He also wrote the book "The Good, the Bad and Your Business: Choosing Right When Ethical Dilemmas Pull You Apart." In addition, Seglin has written about ethics for the Sunday New York Times, Money and Business section.
Seglin lectures on business ethics and writing around the country. He hosted "Doing Well by Doing Good," an hourlong live television program airing on WCVE-TV, PBS' Richmond, Virginia affiliate. He has also contributed commentaries to Public Radio's Marketplace, and is regularly featured as an expert on ethics on CNN, CNBC, Fox 25 Boston and other media outlets.
He is the author or co-author on more than a dozen books on business and writing and has written for a number of publications including The New York Times, Real Simple, Fortune, FSB, Salon.com, Time.com, Sojourners, MIT's Sloan Management Review, Harvard Management Update, Business 2.0, ForbesASAP, CIO, CFO and MBA Jungle.
Prior to 1998, Seglin was an executive editor at Inc.magazine. His ethics features called "Black & White" were a regular feature of the magazine.
He holds a master's degree in theological studies from The Divinity School at Harvard University, and a bachelor of arts in English from Bethany College in West Virginia. Seglin lives in Boston with his wife, Nancy, a therapist. His two children work as teachers.
