Scott Stantis
Scott Stantis of the Chicago Tribune is known for his strong opinions, sharp wit, and keen sense for the absurd. Named the Tribune's editorial cartoonist in 2009, he succeeds Jeff MacNelly who held that position until his death in 2000. In addition to five cartoons a week for the Tribune and TMS, Stantis also produces a weekly editorial cartoon for USA TODAY.
Stantis' work appears in more than 100 newspapers and has been featured by Newsweek, U.S. News and World Report, The New York Daily News, The Los Angeles Times, CNN, "CBS This Morning" and "Nightline." He has served as editorial cartoonist for The Birmingham News, Orange County Register, The Commercial Appeal in Memphis, Tennessee and The Arizona Republic. Stantis also creates "Prickly City," a daily comic strip syndicated in more than 100 newspapers.
Stantis is a past President of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists (AAEC) and is a board member of the Editorial Cartooning Initiative, the foundation arm of the AAEC. He has also served on the boards for various state and regional chapters of the Epilepsy Foundation and Workshop, Inc., a Birmingham-based facility offering jobs and job training to persons of various levels of disabilities. Stantis is a 2004 graduate of Leadership Birmingham.
A California native, Stantis has been married for more than two decades to his college sweetheart, Janien Fadich-Stantis. They have two sons and split their time between Chicago and a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama.
