Walt Handelsman
Walt Handelsman is the Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist for Newsday in New York. His work is nationally syndicated by Tribune Media Services to newspapers around the country and internationally.
One of the mostly widely reprinted cartoonists in America, Handelsman's work frequently runs in Newsweek, Time, The New York Times, USA Today, The Washington Post and The Chicago Tribune.
Handelsman, has won every major journalism award for cartooning excellence, including: The 2007 and 1997 Pulitzer Prize, the 1993 and 1989 National Headliner Award, the 1992 Society of Professional Journalists Award, the 1996 Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award and the 2003 Scripps Howard National Journalism award.
In 2006, Walt taught himself Flash animation and now creates animated editorial cartoons for Newsday that are viewed by millions of fans across the Internet. They can be seen at www.newsday.com/walt
Before joining Newsday in 2001, Walt worked for The Times-Picayune in New Orleans, The Scranton Times and a chain of 13 Suburban Baltimore weeklies. He is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati. Handelsman worked in design and sales for a Baltimore advertising agency before becoming a cartoonist.
Walt is the author of eight collections of his editorial cartoons as well as a children's book.
