Ask Amy: Advice for the real world
In the tradition of the great personal advice columnists, the Chicago Tribune's Dickinson is a plainspoken straight shooter who relates to readers of all ages. She answers personal questions by addressing issues from both her head and her heart. A solid reporter, Dickinson researches her topics to provide readers with informed opinions and answers.
Amy Dickinson’s memoir, “The Mighty Queens of Freeville: A Mother, a Daughter, and the Town That Raised Them” (Hyperion), will hit bookstores Tuesday, February 3. TMS is pleased to offer our Ask Amy column subscribers a special excerpt from the book at no additional cost.
Ask Amy readers will enjoy learning about the life of their favorite advice guru before she became Ann Landers’ successor and how she created her own “fairy-tale ending” to her life story. The book has already received enthusiastic reviews and will be promoted heavily on "Good Morning America," "The View," NPR, in Redbook and Good Housekeeping magazines, as well as via a national book tour.
The 2,500-word excerpt will be made available for publication on Sunday, February 1. Editors can run it in two parts or run one independent of the other. The excerpt will move with the book cover art and Amy’s photo.
For column rates and to receive the book excerpt and a signed copy of the book, contact your TMS representative at tmssales@tribune.com or 800-245-6536.

Grandparents must advocate for more kid time
DEAR AMY: My son and his family live nearby. Before their children started school, my wife and I kept the kids each weekday while my son and his wife worked. Our daughter-in-law's family lived several hundred miles away.

DEAR AMY: I am a married woman who has been in love with another man for nine years. My husband is abusive, and everyone knows it. My boyfriend thinks I am divorced. We are both 55. I have no one to talk to.
Husband praises his hero -- his wife
DEAR AMY: I'm not the best writer, but I want to tell you about my wife. She is a person who is always helping kids.
